Fringe 2012 Uta Uber Kool Ja ‘Its her party. You’re just invited’
You're invited to the hotel party of THE tragic fallen fashionista, Uta Uber Kool Ja.
Uta is baring all: she’ll dance for you; cry at you; laugh with you. Her intimate parties take place inside a chic room at The Hotel Richmond, Rundle Mall from 22 Feb to 17 March as part of the 2012 Adelaide Fringe. Every inch of the room is Uta's stage, and the audience are her guests. Deeply funny and ultimately moving, Uta Uber Kool Ja is the solo debut of critically acclaimed actor Georgina Symes.
Inspired by amazing women of the 20th and 21st century Uta Uber Kool Ja is a tongue-in-cheek fictional biography of Uta: an actor/feminist/pop star/artist/designer/exhibitionist/rock star.
Each night, a select group is snuck into Uta’s gorgeous room where she is in the mood to bare all, tell her secrets and ask for some in return. Before the champagne goes flat and the high heel snaps, Uta and her guests will share an experience. Uta Uber Kool Ja blends dark comedy, intimate exchanges and glossy finishes with tragedy and perversion to ask ‘what more can we get from scraping the bottom of a barrel?’ It is a peek-a-boo car crash that is deeply funny and disturbing.
Uta Uber Kool Ja is the over-the-top alter ego of nationally recognised actor, Georgina Symes. Symes has acted around the country with some of Australia’s greatest theatre companies, danced in Paris and recently appeared in ‘Bad Behaviour', an award-winning independent film that screened at Cannes.
Her show premiered at the 2011 Melbourne Fringe Festival where it won the Adelaide Fringe Tour Ready Award. Uta encourages her guests to stay in touch via her website and social media, and she (or her assistant) promise to write back to everyone.
Of her upcoming Adelaide Fringe visit, Uta says ‘I have one mission while in town: begin building an army of love. Look out Adelaide, I’m coming to kick you in the c**t, pash your girlfriend, and break your heart, mend it… then break your phone.’
"Symes is outstanding" - Jason Blake, Sydney Morning Herald
